One Far Sun Release New Single ‘Hello Old Friend’

In 2012, one far sun (Fiona Menzies, Rachel Menzies, and Amy Wagner) bid farewell to the UK music stage. The all-female trio went their separate ways as they pursued different careers, and motherhood and moved to different countries.

After a decade break, one far sun is now back on the scene, featuring Amy Wagner on gritty guitars and lead vocals, together with sisters Rachel Menzies and Fiona Menzies on violin, cello and lush vocal harmonies. With renewed energy and perspectives, a new chapter in their musical journey is beginning, one that is sure to win over lovers of female singer-songwriting.

one far sun returns with the release of their love ballad « hello old friend », dedicated to Australia and capturing the enigmatic relationship between expatriates and their home country. The folk/alt-pop song conveys the difficulties of parting ways with a once-loved relationship through their signature epic string arrangements and ethereal three part vocal harmonies.

one far sun penned the lyrics of « hello old friend » over a decade ago, while they were on tour in Australia. Then, life intervened, and it languished as an incomplete demo that was filed away, although they always intended to return to it at a later date.

The trio returned to the studio between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024 to complete the composition and came to an entirely new arrangement with their producer Rob Aitken in his Crystal Palace studio. The finished track has verses delivered by lead singers Amy and Rachel, exquisite cello melodies from Fiona and sumptuous three-part harmonies. The track was mixed by Rob Aitken and mastered by Christian Wright from Abbey Road Studios, London.

On the release, one far sun comments, “‘hello old friend’ is our love song to Australia, capturing the bittersweet bond between ex-pats and their homeland. With soaring vocal harmonies and haunting cello, ‘hello old friend’ reflects the complexities of leaving behind a once cherished relationship. We hope it resonates with anyone who has felt the tug of war between longing and liberation.”
